Preserving your KOGHT garments
KOGHT garments are made from materials that, with proper care, will last for decades. The following instructions represent the minimum required to preserve each fabric's integrity. When in doubt, do less rather than more — the most common cause of garment damage is over-cleaning.
Cashmere
Cashmere Knitwear
- Hand wash in cold water (max 30°C) with a gentle cashmere detergent
- Do not wring — press gently between two clean towels to remove excess water
- Dry flat, away from direct heat and sunlight, reshaped to original form
- Never hang cashmere — it will stretch and lose its shape
- Dry clean only when absolutely necessary, using a specialist
- Store folded in breathable cotton bags; avoid plastic or sealed containers
- Use a cashmere comb to remove pilling after the first few wears
- Air between wears rather than washing after every use
Wool & Tailoring
Tailored Garments
- Dry clean only — do not attempt to hand or machine wash
- Air after wearing to allow moisture to dissipate before storing
- Use a quality wooden or wide-shouldered hanger to preserve the shoulder structure
- Brush with a soft clothes brush along the grain to remove surface debris
- Steam rather than press; if pressing is necessary, use a damp cloth between iron and fabric
- Limit dry cleaning to once or twice per season at most
- Store in a breathable garment bag, away from direct light
- Use cedar blocks or lavender to deter moths — never mothballs
Leather
Leather Outerwear
- Do not wash — wipe clean with a soft, slightly damp cloth only
- Condition with a quality leather conditioner twice a year to prevent drying and cracking
- If wet, allow to dry naturally at room temperature — never near a heat source
- Store on a wide wooden hanger in a cool, ventilated space
- Do not fold or compress for long periods — the leather will crease permanently
- Keep away from direct sunlight, which will fade and dry the hide over time
- Consult a specialist leather cleaner for stain removal — do not attempt at home
- The patina that develops with wear is a mark of quality, not a flaw
Silk
Silk Garments
- Hand wash only in cold water (max 30°C) with a pH-neutral silk detergent
- Do not wring, twist, or rub — handle gently and briefly
- Rinse thoroughly in cold water until water runs clear
- Roll in a clean white towel to remove water — never squeeze
- Hang to dry on a padded or satin hanger, away from direct sunlight
- Iron on the lowest setting while still slightly damp, on the reverse side only
- Do not apply perfume or deodorant directly to silk — allow to dry before wearing
- Dry clean for stubborn stains; always specify silk to the cleaner
Scarves & Accessories
Cashmere Scarves
- Hand wash in cold water with a gentle detergent, or dry clean
- Press flat between towels to remove water — do not wring
- Dry flat, reshaped to original dimensions
- Store loosely folded — never compressed under other items
- Comb gently with a cashmere comb to maintain a smooth surface
- Air regularly; cashmere does not require frequent washing
General
Universal Guidance
- Always check the care label before attempting any cleaning method
- When in doubt, consult a specialist cleaner familiar with luxury textiles
- Treat stains immediately — the longer they set, the harder they are to remove
- Do not over-clean; frequent cleaning shortens the lifespan of any fabric
- Store seasonal pieces in breathable bags with appropriate moth deterrents
- Rotate garments so each piece rests between wears
